Shortly after breaking into the world of stand-up comedy, John Keating was named as one of the "best young performers on the Boston comedy scene" by Boston Herald reporter Dean Johnson. John mixes sarcastic wit and an extremely likeable persona to entertain and excite even the most inflexible of audiences. Not only is John a favorite in the world of stand-up comedy, but he has also written two screenplays and curently studies acting with Dee Wallace Stone in Los Angeles. His original style and unique perspective on topics ranging from his years spent living with his grandparents to the rigors of hiding his "inner geek" from the women he dates has allowed John to perform all over the country, sharing stages with such diverse acts as Dave Chappelle, "Bobcat" Goldthwait and music stars Barenaked Ladies. In an interview, John had this to say: "An agent once asked me if I was funny. I said yes. He said, ‘you don’t sound funny.’ How do you respond to hat? ‘Yes I do, so there!’ Then I stuck my tongue out at him. "One of my best times on stage was probably the very first time. I was really nervous before I got up there. Once I got on stage, I was totally at ease and did my jokes. I was on a show with a lot of comics that I had seen in clubs and I felt like one of them. When I was on stage, they came out from the back to watch me….I thought that was kind of cool." "Comedy is different for me now. Before, watching stand-up was like not knowing how a magician does his tricks. I miss that." "The worst show I ever had….no one was even listening to me. I could have been up there in a bikini and a banjo singing Country Western songs. They didn’t care. I could’ve talked to the wall and it wouldn’t have mattered. I think that if I ever do an HBO special, it will be called ‘John Keating: For The Wall’" |
