The Long Way Home

I'm back in Los Angeles (well, actually, I've been back for a week now) and I'm finally got up on sleep and de-stressed from my trip home. Not the trip back to Boston...that was fantastic and I hung out with my new niece for the entire stay. It was the literal trip back that wore me out.

I was scheduled to leave Boston at 7:15pm on Wed. night. That day, my family all got together to have lunch and then around 5:00 my Mom, Stepdad and I headed into Logan. Our usual tradition is to get some coffee (Dunkin Donuts baby!) and hang out for awhile before I get into the security line and head to the gate.

Speaking of which, that security line thing has got to change. Is it really necessary to continue to take off your shoes? They made a woman with flip flops on take off her shoes. It seems like the security at the airport is much more reactive than proactive. There was a shoe bomber a few years ago...everyone take off your shoes! What? An explosive gel was found in England a few years back...ok, no bottled water in the terminal! I would like to see a report of how many shoe bombers they catch per year. I would guess the number would be around zero, but I digress...

I get to the airport and the flight is delayed until 9:30 now. Luckily, my parents are still there so we head back to Woburn and get dinner before driving back into the airport at 9:00. The flight doesn't end up boarding until 10:30.

OK, now I'm on the plane finally...a few hours late but what can you do. Except we sat on the runway for about another hour and a half. Apparently, the valve that loads the water for the sinks and coffee wasn't working correctly so they were trying to determine if they should just bring on bottled water. Then they had to fill out paperwork and that took about 30 minutes to do.

There was this older lady sitting in the aisle across from me and she was being really annoying. She kept yelling "Let's go!" and was on the cell phone with someone and complaining really loudly, dropping "F" bombs and being rude to the people around her. It wasn't like she was having it any tougher than the rest of us but she wanted to make sure we all knew that she was unhappy. Finally, this Asian gentleman couldn't take it anymore and turns around in his seat and says "Shut up!"

The woman, aghast, says "what did you say to me? I didn't hear you?"

"I said 'shut the fuck up' did you hear that?!"

Huge laughs from everyone around. The woman is back on her cellphone:

"Oh that's nice talk, that kind of language. (into the phone) I don't know, some Arab turned around and yelled at me..."

She gets off the phone and mumbles: "Stupid immigrant, how dare you. You don't even belong here, you weren't even born in this country."

Finally, I couldn't take anymore and leaned over and said "Ma'am, if it makes you feel any better I was born in Boston...and I want you to shut up too".

The flight got in at 5am...good times...
